Financial literacy is more than just numbers—it’s about understanding how the world works,
making informed choices, and preparing for a secure future.

MoneySmarts in a large maintained primary school
Case Study 1
Location: Hornchurch, East London
School Type: 3-form Primary School
Number of Pupils Involved: 630
Impact
This school implemented our MoneySmarts programme, initially with KS2 (Y3-6) pupils. The lessons were incorporated into schemes of work across a number of subjects, mostly maths and PSHE. Teachers quickly found they could deliver these lessons with little to no prior preparation and none undertook any special or additional training before the programme was introduced in the late autumn term of 2025.
Here's what teachers said:
“The visuals helped a great deal and the children were automatically engaged! I loved the way we were able to teach it ourselves . . . it was all self-explanatory."
“SLT have LOVED the slides, resources, feedback and pupil voice feedback.”
“Honestly as a school we have been so, so impressed with the resources and feel lucky that we’re using them!”
Pupils commented:
“I got some pocket money at the weekend from my mum and, after what we learned today, I am going to make a budget with her tonight."
“I really liked learning about prioritising and controlling my money."
“I've learnt you can't always spend money on what you want sometimes you must think about what you need."

★★★★★
The pupils LOVED these lessons! They enjoyed them and found them interesting. It has definitely shifted their financial attitudes/ understanding.

JuniorNomics in a Prep School
Case Study 2
Location: Muswell Hill, North London
School Type: 2-form Prep School
Number of Pupils Involved: 180

★★★★★
Having economics on our curriculum reflects the ambition we have for all our pupils. JuniorNomics takes a subject people often think of as abstract or dull, makes it accessible for children and, above all, makes it FUN!
Mr Landsman, Senior Deputy Head
Impact:
In the 2024/25 academic year, this school introduced a new offer to Senior Prep (Y4-6) pupils called ‘Future Citizens’, aimed at helping them prepare for secondary school and - ultimately - adult life in the world of the future. As well as first aid, public speaking and current affairs, the school also uses ‘Future Citizens’ to give pupils economics lessons using the JuniorNomics programme.
Here's what teachers said:
“It’s been simply amazing to see how well pupils have grasped key economic principles, even though this is a subject not normally taught until secondary school."
“Pupils love these lessons; the combination of the challenge, the real-world relatability, and the fact they know few if any other children their age are learning what they are have made it a weekly highlight for them!”
“The programme complements the pupils’ work in other subjects really well. For example, having looked at the Stone Age to Iron Age already, Y4 pupils quickly saw the relevance of the lessons on barter and the invention of money”
Pupils commented:
“Economics is now literally my favourite subject!”
“We’ve learned that money has to be portable, divisible, durable and fungible, which means each unit of money must be the same value as all the others."
“Now I know what makes things expensive - when supply is low and demand is high, the price will go up!"
